Yesterday I paid someone to record and accompany me singing on the guitar. Three songs, Moondance, In My Life, and Crazy He Calls Me. It turned out quite well, I think. And I loved the process. It reminded me that that’s where I belong. Making music, with musicians.
I’ve been really struggling with my voice over the past couple of years. Menopause caught up with me and I don’t sing like I used to. It’s started to have some cracks, and weak areas. So I’ve been taking voice lessons and exercising every day and working with a microphone. The fact that it turned out well was a major deal for me, hope restored. My goal is to find an acoustic bass player who can do theory, and take some pop and americana songs that I like and turn them into jazz duets. Then we will take that and do small gigs around town, private parties and coffee houses and stuff like that. I’ve had this planned for at least 15 years now, and I always planned to do music once I got my kids growing. It’s pretty cool.
I bought a professional amp and condenser microphone, with mixer, so when I find a bass player I’ll be ready to go.
It was weird, because just the night before I came to the conclusion that I was going to give it up. I guess not yet. Anyway I’m going to post links to the audio, once we get it mixed. Eventually I’ll have some video too.
